Jammu, Nov 27: The 26th Death anniversary of Pt. Ghirdhari Lal Dogra was commemorated at Pradesh Congress Committee headquarters Shaheedi Chowk, Jammu here today. Senior leaders of the party paid floral tributes to Dogra and remembered his services. The function was presided over by Dharam Pal Sharma-ex-MP while prominent leaders who attended included Hari Singh, S. Gurmukh Singh, Janak Raj Gupta-Ex-MP, MLC Ravinder Sharma, MLA Indu Pawar, Vinod Sharma, Kanta Bhan, Girdhari Lal Chalotra-Ex-Minister, S.R.Sudhir, K. L. Gupta, Thakur Manmohan Singh, Chuni Lal Bhat, Shiv Kumar Sharma (INTUC), Th. Narinder Singh-Ex Mayor and D. S. Langeh. Paying rich tributes to Dogra, the senior Congress leaders described him as a tallest leader of his time who firmly believed and followed secularism in true spirit and fought against communal and divisive forces in the state. He stood like a rock against the fundamentalists and separatists and sectarian forces who were trying to weaken the bonds of unity and integrity of the state and the nation, in one or the other form. Girdhari Lal Dogra was the leader of masses and always maintained close relation with grass root people and served every one who came to him irrespective of caste, creed, color, religion or region. He was popular among the masses for his simplicity, honesty, tolerance and his commitment to the ideals of Congress party. Speakers said that such was his personality and contribution for the state and nation that those who were opposed to his philosophy and ideology, which was greatly impressed by Mahatma Gandhi's teachings and ideals of Congress party, also remember and praise his contribution and quality of leadership. They said that there is need to follow in practical terms the principles and ideology which was dear to G L Dogra. Those who paid tributes include Jagdish Dogra, Shashi Sharma, Arun Sharma, Naresh Sahram, S. Kirtan Singh, Dr. Kanwal Singh, Rajiv K. Gupta, Main Nazir Ahmed, Pt. Keshvanand, Jawaharlal Kaul, Ch. Sukh Dev Singh, Suman Mahaldar, Ravi Singh Salathia, Narinder Gupta, Sanjeev Sharma, Vipan Nichal, Bodh Raj Sharma, Ramesh Gupta, Virinder Singh Manhas, Smt. Kirna Devi, Vipan Nichal, J.K. Kaul and S. Deedar Singh. Earlier, senior leaders of the Congress party visited Dogra Chowk opposite Jammu university and garlanded the statue of Shri Dogra and paid floral tributes where number of prominent personalities from all walk of life were also present. Prominent among Congress leaders who attended included Mangat Ram Sharma-former Deputy Chief Minister, Ministers Raman Bhalla, Manohar Lal; Vice Presidents Dharam Pal Sharma, Th. Hari Singh, S. Gurmukh Singh, MLC Ravinder Sharma, Girdhari Lal Chalotra-Ex-Minister and other prominent leaders of the party . |
