REASI, Nov 27 : The poor implementation of Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) across the state can be gauged from the fact that two Anganwari centers in Panchayat Sangrah of district Reasi are non-functional since last six months. Sources told Early Times said that two Anganwari centers Ward No. 3 situated at village Gahai near Ransoo Shiv Khori and Ward No. 1 placed at village Khori both of Panchayat Sangrah are lying closed for the last more than six months allegedly to misappropriate all assistance sent to these centers for their personal benefits by the workers employed in these centers. "These two Anganwari centers are not working and the nutrition meant for the children coming in these centers is being sold clandestinely with active involvement of Angawari workers and some officials of District Social Welfare Department," said Sunil Singh a resident of Ward Nov 3. Another resident Sohan Singh also narrated about the misappropriation being taken place in these centers. He further said Anganwari workers open these centers once in a month to maintain official records regarding children attendance, nutrition and allied works and this practice is going on unabated for the last six months. The Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) Shashi Bala said we don't inspect any Anganwari center until the complaints in this context are received by the department. She further said "It is not our duty to inspect the Angarwari centers to ensure that centers are working properly or not rather it is the responsibility of concerned Panchayat Sarpanch to look into working of Anganwari centers." The Director Social Welfare Department Mohammad Husain Bhatti who took strong exception to irresponsible statement of the CDPO Shashi Bala said he will take action against the CDPO and an inquiry will be initiated to find out the facts about alleged misappropriation and closure of these two Anganwari centers. Meanwhile, residents alleged that the Sarpanch Swarn Singh is also involved as in Ward No 3 his Daughter-in-law is working as Anganwari worker who has not turned up for the last six months. They further said that when we approached the Sarpanch about the closure of Anganwari center in Ward No 3, he said that his Daughter-in-law is expecting child that is why center is closed. They also informed that even the last CDPO Sukrita Devi was also attached by the Minister for SWD Sakina Itoo over her alleged involvement in misappropriations in the Anganwari centers.
