| Evil effects of atrocious Article 370 | | Defeating the sinister game plan | | Neha JAMMU, Nov 27: Article 370 is not a boon; it's a deadly poison. It's divisive and essentially anti-India. It's anti-people. It's anti-democratic. It's anti-Scheduled Castes. It's anti-Other Backward Classes. It's anti-Scheduled Tribes. It's fundamentally anti-minorities. It has only empowered the Kashmiri ruling elite to exercise unbridled legislative, executive and financial powers and exploit the people. It has empowered the ruling classes to the extent that no one can question it. It has promoted corruption and inefficiency. Article 370 has simply promoted politics of separation in Kashmir, based on religious fanaticism. It has hampered the growth of people's democracy in the state and empowered the Kashmiri ruling elite to jeopardize the legitimate political, economic and social interests of the people of Jammu province and Ladakh region and enrich Kashmir and a section of its people at the cost of Jammu and Ladakh. It has created a strong wall of hatred between Jammu & Kashmir and rest of the country and misled the international community to believe that the state is not an integral part of India like other states. It has created regional tensions, bitterness between the two communities and made the life of minorities and social groups like the SCs, STs and OBCs a veritable hell on the earth. It has lead to a situation that forces the refugees from West Pakistan to lead a wretched life. It has undermined the grass-roots level institutions, including panchayats. That Article 370 is dangerous and anti-democratic could be seen from the fact that it has driven Jammu & Kashmir away from the national mainstream. It is so atrocious and discriminatory that it has recognized the pernicious two-nation theory and empowered the solitary State of Jammu & Kashmir to have a separate Constitution and separate flag. The fact of the matter is that Article 370 has degenerated the socio-economic and political life of the people and empowered a microscopic minority of vested interests and communal and separatists forces to rule the roost and live like former princes and nawabs. The other day, NC leader and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who has been subverting the polity both from within and without and preaching and practicing communalism of worst form, charged the BJP with dividing society by raking speaking against Article 370. He and others of his ilk, who use every available opportunity to question the state's political status, cannot fool the people by saying what they have been saying, with the Congress maintaining a criminal silence, thus exposing his controversial credentials. Gone are the days when the Kashmir-based NC leaders and similar other so-called mainstream leaders would fool the people by misinterpreting Article 370. The people by and large now understand the kind of harm this pernicious Article has caused to the society and the polity. The NC leadership or for that matter all the votaries of Article 370, must come forward and hold a debate on the implications of Article 370. They simply cannot misuse certain platforms to commend the condemnable. It's time for all the people in the state to fight out the anti-democratic forces as represented by the NC and the Congress. |
