| Bhaderwah - Chamba road to become a reality by end 2014 | | | Early Times Report
Bhaderwah,Nov 27: The road namely Bhaderwah Chamba road for which a foundation stone was laid by Late Indra Gandhi the then Prime minister of the country to connect state directly with the Himichal Pardesh which is only 42 KM away from the main Bhaderwah but within hiccups the completion of this project remains in doldrums but now it seems it will become a reality very soon. "Three year back state government opted to widening of this road work to a private company with the name and fame of MGCPL Mittal Garg contractors Private limited at the cost of Rs 70 Crore and the target was laid down five years and from that day work is in progress as Union Health MInister Gulam Nabi Azad who is son of the soil too showed his keen interest in the completion of this project, official sources said. They said it was his keen interest that Bhaderwah will soon connect with Himachal Pradesh within a year's time as work on the prestigious Bhaderwah-Chamba road project is going on in full swing and the authorities do not want to miss the deadline this time at any cost. . "This road will be opened for normal traffic by the end of Nov 2014, at any cost," claimed Union Health Minister Gulam Nabi Azad last week when he was on two day tour of his home town Bhaderwah, sources said. Union Minister Azad during his tour had termed this Bhaderwah-Chamba road as "very important" project and hoped that with the opening of this road socio-economic conditions of people will improve. Locals in Bhaderwah are also optimistic over the completion of this project hoping this would boost the potential of pilgrim tourism because Bhaderwah, Doda and Kishtwar areas are known for temples and shrines. According to Project Manager MGCPL , Kultar Singh the widening of the work has completed till date and we have also done 4 times metling of this road with graders and added out of 42 Km long road, 37 Km have been completed and blacktopped. He also informed that the 42 Km road has three bridges and work on superstructures of two have been completed , while as work on the remaining one bridge is in progress and the inter -state road project is expected to be complete in all respects by the end of 2014. Singh also observed that Bhaderwah Chamba road is life line of the erstwhile Doda district and this will give an exposure to the hidden tourism potential of the area ."Traversing through a huge range of black cedar pockets, the 49.5 kilometer road, will connect the valley to the neighboring Himachal Pradesh and at the same time provide Jammu and Kashmir a reliable alternate link with the neighbouring states, he added. Pertinently, the road that came into being about 20 years ago, remained idle all these years in absence of proper maintenance- denying the people of Bhaderwah from the benefits which are being anticipated once the link was opened for the traffic. Sheikh Masood Ahmed , Thakur Yudvir Singh , Saleem Malik ,Khakhan Malik and Abdul Gafaar Bhagwan all locals of Bhaderwah hoped that this stretch up to Hundi Maral, the last point of Jammu and Kashmir, offers a thrilling drive amid captivating landscape and natural beauty. "The road will open the unexplored and highly potential tourist attraction spots of Thanala, Khani Top, Padri and Bal Padri to nature loving tourists, they added. |
