| HC asks IGP to constitute SIT in killing of 2 youths in 2010 | | | S Sabaqat
Srinagar, Nov 28: High Court today asked IGP Kashmir to constitute a Special Investigation Team headed by an officer not below the rank of Superintendent of Police to investigate killing of two youth at Khannabal in south Kashmir's Anantnag district in 2010. Hearing a petition seeking probe into the killing of Bilal Ahmad Najar and Noor-ul-Amin Dagga, Court of Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey asked the IGP to constitute the SIT within one week. Court also asked the SIT to be constituted to file detailed compliance report within four weeks. Both Najar and Dagga were allegedly killed in police firing when they were waiting outside Ahlihadees Masjid at Khannabal for offering funeral prayers of a student Maroof Ahmad Nath, who had got drowned after security forces allegedly chased some boys in September 2010. Following the incident, families of the victims had approached the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Anantnag with a plea that SSP be directed to register a case to probe the killings. The court directed the SSP to register a case. Order of Chief Judicial Magistrate was challenged by the state before the appellate court of Sessions Judge Anantnag who quashed the order. The families challenged the Sessions Court order in the High Court which set aside the order of Principal Sessions Judge Anantnag and upheld the order of Chief Judicial Magistrate. Since November last, the Jammu and Kashmir High Court has been monitoring the investigation of the case after it withdrew proceedings from the trial court. |
