Modi wave rattles Congress, NC
Lalkar Rally
11/28/2013 11:20:56 PM
Neha
JAMMU, Nov 28: BJP Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi has yet to address Lalkar rally in Jammu, but the Modi effect has already rattled both the coalition partners, the Congress, which is under severe attack throughout the country because of its failure to deliver on any front, as also because of its involvement in multi-crore scams, corruption, misrule and its failure to control prices, and the National Conference, which has over the period lost most of its sheen and appeal by pursuing anti-people, communal and anti-national policies and because of its "gross misrule".
Narendra Modi will address the Lalkar Rally on December 1. Both the parties have, it appears, come to the conclusion that the Modi rally in the M.A. Stadium in the City of Temples would change the political scene of Jammu province, which returns 37 members to the Assembly and two to the Lok Sabha, and help the State BJP perform exceedingly well in the upcoming Lok Sabha and Assembly polls. The State BJP, according to insiders, has "planned to win both the Lok Sabha seats in Jammu, the lone Lok Sabha seat in Ladakh and upset the NC applecart in Kashmir and win a minimum of 20 Assembly seats". The Local BJP leadership, the insiders say, will "make optimum use of Narendra Modi's Jammu visit and establish its direct contact with the people across the Jammu province". "Indeed, the BJP is in a poll mode," the insiders say, and add that "Narendra Modi's proposed Jammu visit has galvanized the BJP cadres and supporters to the extent that they are working overtime to make the rally a grand success".
That the Modi effect has rattled the NC and the Congress could be seen from the fact that while the Congress has decided to hold a meeting of party Ministers, legislators and senior party leaders and functionaries on December 2 to review the prevailing political situation in the State, the National Conference has decided to restart the public-hearing mechanism at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhawan in Jammu from December 2. JKPCC chief Saif-ud-Din Soz would chair the Congress meeting and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's Ministerial colleagues and senior party functionaries will start holding public hearings between 10 am and 1 pm on specified dates at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhawan from December 2.
That Omar Abdullah and his colleagues know that the Modi effect will constitute the most important factor in the upcoming elections could also be seen from the Chief Minister's uncalled for November 25 attack on Narendra Modi. Though no leader of any of these two parties has said that it has become imperative to become pro-active in the wake of the likely impact the Narendra Modi's Lalkar Rally would have on the State's political scene, political pundits have opined that the "leadership of both these parties is feeling extremely worried about their poll prospects" and that "the Congress and the NC leadership has come to believe that if they are to remain relevant in Jammu province, they have to neutralize the Modi effect".
Whatever the case, one thing appears clear: The NC and the Congress will have to work very hard and deliver if they are to remain relevant in the State politics. Both the parties are passing through a very critical phase. This is the general opinion in and outside the State.
