| GMC students protest, demand expulsion of "Peer's doctors" | | | Mustansir SRINAGAR, Nov 28: Breaking their silence first time after the CET expose, hundreds of medical students at Government Medical College (GMC), Srinagar Thursday held a strong protest demonstration in the college premises demanding disqualification of the beneficiaries of the CET scam. Hundreds of students of all the batches carrying placards assembled in the college premises this morning and staged a strong protest demonstration demanding exit of the tainted students who according to the protesting students have earned bad name for the GMC ever since the CET scam surfaced. The protesting medical students while talking to Early Times said they have been bearing the brunt of bad name earned by GMC after the expose of CET scam so authorities should immediately cancel the admissions of the tainted students. "The students who are the beneficiaries of the CET paper leak should immediately be shown exit to restore the credibility of the college. All 12 tainted students who have reportedly received papers prior to CET exam last year should be thrown out of college" said a medical student of 2012 batch stating that there are about hundred students of this batch but the 12 tainted students have brought disrepute to the college and have earned bad name for the students fraternity. Another student leader threatened to intensify the agitation if the admission of the accused students was not cancelled. "We aren't going to join our classes till the tainted medical students won't be shown exit door," Faizan Younis, president of students' body in GMC said Younis, a final year student, says CET scam has "demonized medical students" who are now being looked down upon by people in and outside the campus. "Why should we all suffer in silence when the real culprits still walk with pride around campus," he says. "No, this is not done. Authorities have to restore confidence in campus by cancelling their admission." The protesting students allege that senior doctors in GMC refer them as "peer's doctors" or "backdoor medicos". "This is height of embarrassment," Abid, one of the protestors, "This 2012 batch has around 100 students and 12 out of them have earned a bad name not only to their batch, but for entire student community at GMC. This is simply outrageous and atrocious. No, we can't live with bad name. Tainted students must leave GMC." "Students of batch 2012 who joined this college without any dubious means are more frustrated because they are the worst sufferers of the credibility crisis," the student's leader said. Younis appealed the Government to take some concrete decision for expulsion of the students who have benefited out of CET-2012 paper leakage scam. "The Government should clear its stand if it wants to restore credibility of this prestigious institution besides the students who have to face the world," Yonis added.
