EARLY TIMES REPORT

Jammu, Dec 17 : Referring to Omar Abdullah's latest statement in which he had ruled out the possibility of providing jobs to the educated youth, PDP leaders Nizam-ud-Din Bhat, and Mohd Dilawar Mir said that such a statement was highly "irresponsible" and the Chief Minister is supposed to provide alternatives for resolving the problem of unemployment. The duo even stepping beyond had stated that Omar if feels helpless he should quit.
"For the time being educated youth in Jammu and Kashmir have to bank on Government jobs because for them there were no alternatives, they said.
The PDP leaders, said that had there been a robust industrial sector in the state the educated youth could get lucrative jobs. They said that the industrial sector continued to be weak after the NC led Government failed to attract any private and Government investment.
Bhat and Mir said that during the last over five years there should have not been investment in the industrial sector in Jammu and Kashmir beyond Rs.3,000 and Rs.5,000 crores against Rs,over 80,000 in Himachal and Uttar akhand states during the same period.
Mir said that where the Jammu and Kashmir state has completely failed Punjab Government has succeeded when it attracted an investment of Rs.10,000 crores in one day. Bhat said that even the public sector enterprises continue to be in the red thereby leaving no scope for educated youth to get jobs. They said besides being in the red most of these public sector corporations have remained overstaffed and some of them have been spending heavy sums of money on consultants.
The PDP leaders said that when the state Government was headed by Mufti Mohd Sayeed the then Chief Minister had persuaded the Government of India to conduct special recruitment drive in the state by the Army, the Navy and the Air Force which had helped more than 7,000 educated youth to get gainful employment.
They suggested to the Chief Minister to explore the possibility of opening job avenues for the educated youth in Jammu and Kashmir in paramilitary forces, central Government departments and central public sector corporations.
Mir and Bhat criticized the Chief Minister for voicing his inability and helplessness in resolving the unemployment problem.
They said if Omar Abdullah feels helpless he should quit.
