ET Report JAMMU, Dec 18: An advertisement issued by the Power Development Corporation (PDC) titled JK on road to progress has been perceived as a crude joke by the people who chill it out without electricity. The Chief Minister has laid the foundation stone of 35.5 MW hydel project on Surhan River in Poonch district. How this is going to make a difference to the lives of the people of the state, the Chief Minister and the PDC alone know. During the past few years, the people have witnessed scores of foundation stone laying functions. The process has gained momentum over the past few months to win votes. While the foundation stones mislead the gullible public, the saner elements know what they are up to. They also know that the Union Government has sliced down the annual plan allocation. A major portion of the allocation will be spent on `empowering' the police force. The plan has been sliced down for a variety of reasons including non-utlization of funds meant for various schemes. How can a Government that is unable to spend funds allocated to it, take the state on the road to progress? The PDC which has issued the advertisement is responsible for misplacing vital agreements signed with the NHPC and its tall claims, therefore, cause a nauseautic feeling. |
