| Congress Sarpanch runs Private school in Sheep Extension Centre in Uri | | | Javaid Naikoo SRINAGAR, Dec 17: In Taj Mohi-ud-Din's constituency (Uri) a Congress sarpanch has occupied the Sheep Extension Centre and runs a private school in the premises. The Sarpanch, it is believed, is backed by Taj who happens to be a Minister in the Omar led coalition Government. According to the details, a militant turned Congress sarpanch in Halqa Nambal-C identified as Farooq Ahmad is running his private school "New Era English Medium" in a Government building which according to the officials of Animal Sheep Husbandry is basically a "Sheep Extension Centre" constructed after spending a huge amount of money from the Government exchequer over the years. The details reveal that till 2009 one Government school known as Government primary school Khabna in the area was functioning in a building constructed by Government on the land of Farooq Ahmad and in the same year same school was upgraded and was named as Government Middle school Khabna but for want of more space it was shifted from Farooq's building to a rented building of the same village. Sources said that without any permission Sarpanch Farooq Ahmad in 2009 dismantled the building from where the school was functioning. Later, when officials of the department of Animal Sheep Husbandry approached Farooq to construct a sheep extension centre on the land, Farooq agreed but no terms for compensation etc. were settled. Talking to Early Time District Animal officer Animal Sheep Husbandry Baramulla, Dr Altaf Hussain Kakroo said that the said Sheep extension centre in which a Private school is functioning was constructed under Border Area Development Programme (BADP) and as soon as its construction was completed, Farooq Ahmad forcibly occupied the building and is presently running a private school from there. "I have informed the higher officials but for unknown reasons no action has been taken," he said. Sources said that Farooq himself was a contractor when the Sheep extension centre was constructed with an estimated cost of Rs 13 lakhs and is considered a right hand of Minister of Health Education Taj Mohi-ud-Din. The BDO Uri, Shafat Hussain, however, has no knowledge of the construction of the said building under BADP. He is also not aware of any dispute over the building. |
