Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Dec 17: Throwing rules and regulations to the winds, the officials in Tral town of south Kashmir's Pulwama district today chopped mulberry trees for smooth landing of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's chopper. Reports said that the Government employees chopped at least half-a-dozen mulberry trees inside the Bejwani stadium, Tral where Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah was expected to address his party workers. The trees, reports said, were chopped to make the landing of CM's chopper smooth. However, instead of Bejwani stadium, reports said, Omar's chopper landed at the nearby camp of army's 42 RR. "Omar didn't address the gathering at the stadium as per the schedule. Instead, he addressed his party workers at the house of party's Zonal president, Mohd Ashraf Bhat amidst stringent security," reports said. Pertinently the chopping of mulberry trees is a criminal offence and it comes under specified trees category act of the J&K Law, the protection of which is mandatory. A photojournalist, who was covering the CM's event, said 500-600 people attended the rally addressed by Omar. "The town presented a deserted look with heavy deployment of Government forces," he added. South Kashmir's Tral is considered one of the volatile areas owing to being a bastion of militants. |
