Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 17: Central Government Pensioners' Welfare Association (CGPWA), J&K representing pensioners of 28 Central Government Departments/Ministries including All India Services viz. IAS, IPS & IFS; held National Pensioners' Day function at Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA) here today. Dr. S S Bloeria, Vice Chancellor, Central University Jammu, as per the release, was the Chief Guest and Dr. Ashok Bhan, former DG Police, as the Guest of Honour on the occasion. The function was attended by a large number of Association members and special invitees from various organizations of State Government pensioners; besides social activists. J K Vaid, General Secretary CGPWA conducted the proceedings of the function and also briefed the house on latest welfare actions taken by the Department of Pension & Pensioners' Welfare, New Delhi, besides new initiative by Govt. of India on 'channelizing experience and skill of pensioners into meaningful socially useful activities'. S.S.Wazir, President CGPWA, presented the welcome address and highlighted the salient features of the Association along with its future plans and a brief background of the Pensioners' Day which was first celebrated in the country on December 17 to commemorate landmark judgment of the Supreme Court on December, 17, 1982 in D S Nakara vs. Union of India case that pension came as a matter of right to the retiree V.P.Sharma, Patron, delivered a comprehensive power point presentation on the activities and achievements of the Association, including for the welfare of old infirm pensioners by paying visits to them and resolving their pending pension issues. The Chief Guest in his address lauded the efforts being put in by the Association for the general welfare of the civil society with special attention to the pensioners and senior citizens and extended his good wishes and blessings to the Association. |
