| SPOs again go on strike, resume work on Minister's assurance | | Non-payment of salaries | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Dec 17: Barely a week after resuming their duty at Government Medical College & Hospital (GMC&H) on the assurance of hospital administration that their pending salaries would be released, the Special Police Officers (SPOs) again went on strike for not keeping the word by the GMC&H administration. Demanding release of pending wages, the SPOs who have been deployed in GMC&H for security purpose on Tuesday staged protest demonstration against the authorities for turning deaf ears towards their demands. A dozen SPOs boycotted their work and left the places wherever they were posted in GMC hospital. They held a noisy demonstration in the premises of the hospital demanding release of pending salaries. The SPOs alleged that even as they have been working round the clock, the hospital authorities who are responsible for the release of salaries delayed the process forcing them to boycott the work as a mark of protest. The SPOs alleged that they were assured by the hospital authorities and their salaries would be released regularly but it did not happen. Instead, they were forced to hold protest against the administration, they alleged, amid shouting slogans against the hospital as well against the police department. Since there was no security in the hospital following demonstration by the SPOs, the hospital authorities and Medical and Technical Education Minister Taj Mohi-ud-Din rushed there. The Minister assured that their demands would be conceded and pending wages would be released as soon as possible. Following Minister's assurance, the SPOs dispersed from the spot and joined their duties at the respective places in hospital. |
