| Teachers engaging students in menial jobs; DDC assures action | | | early times report Jammu, Dec 17: Despite tall claims of the Government to provide every possible facility in the government schools, students continue to be forced to clean the class rooms , bring drinking water from hand pumps/bowlis and perform other jobs of peons or sweepers. When some scribes visited government high school at Palma about 5 kilometers from district headquarter situated on the side of Rajouri-Budhal road, they found both boys and girls working as sweepers and construction labourers. When in-charge headmistress Shashi Dutta was asked about the irregularity, she said that the school had no sweeper and out of two peons, one is on leave and other was busy in school work. So students were asked to do the job. This was in clear violation of the guidelines laid down by the Apex Court for the student fraternity and in most of the government schools in Rajouri district, teachers engage the students even for their personnel works at home and in the fields. Many such incidents were brought to light including a private high school at Palma is being run in just two shops measuring 12x25 feet and a teacher of this government high school had engaged students for harvesting in the month of October. But the higher authorities remain mute spectators and no action was taken against the erring teacher till today. When the matter was brought in the notice of Hemant Kumar, DDC he asked the Chief Education Officer to look into the matter and take action against guilty under law. Madan Lal and Javed Ahmad both students of the school said that this routine is going on for the last many months in this school and they have to perform some jobs like bring water and tea for the teachers. "I have been directed by the DDC to look into the matter. If possible, I will visit the school on Wednesday or send some officers to verify the complaint. Action will be taken after submission of the inquiry report" said Ch Lal Hussain CEO. |
