| Dilapidated Nagri - Fatehpur road: Locals weary of empty recurring | | | early times report kathua, Dec 17: Tall claims of the district administration, BRO and state government about providing better road connectivity in Nagri have fallen flat and Nagri-Fatehpur 6 Kilometer road directly linking Nagri Toll-Plaza is in shambles putting villagers to tremendous inconvenience. After Lakhanpur Toll- Plaza, a recently constructed new Toll-Plaza at Nagri has added considerable traffic load on this stretch of six kilometer road which provides access to more than fifty villages. The road is in pathetic condition, bumpy and dotted with potholes since long adding untold miseries to the people using it. Locals Dr. Madhu Sudan, Anil Singh, and Tarsem Saini said that the road was handed over to BRO few years back by the government but since then the BRO has adopted the policy of lame excuses to dupe innocent people by ignoring their genuine plight. Dr. Madhu while talking to media said that due to poor condition of the road, scores of commuters who travel frequently on these stretches had developed backaches and other orthopedic disorders. Locals claimed that due to the bad road condition, the transporters avoid plying their vehicles and the villagers have to at times tread miles to reach to their respective destinations. "The transporters complain that their vehicles were suffering extensive damages due to the pathetic road condition as a result of which the annual maintenance cost of their buses had gone up. They further said that even a small downpour inundates the roads and turns it muddy thereby adversely affecting the pedestrian movement. "The problem gets compounded when the villagers have to ferry the patients to district Kathua hospital as it takes hours to reach there. The several deputations had been called on district administration in this connection but nothing coukld be achieved except hollow assurance and harassments. The locals sought the intervention of Chief Minister, and higher authorities of BRO. |
