| Kishtwar traders lock horns over compensation to riot hit victims | | | Asif Iqbal Naik
Jammu, Dec 29 : The rival groups of Traders Association Kishtwar have locked horns over compensation to the riot hit victims. Two press notes projecting conflicting issues were issued today. A statement issued by Rakesh Gupta group claims that his association is the real representative of the trader's community of Kishtwar District and added that the association had always worked for the welfare of its members. He said that association has to work hard to get compensation sanctioned for affected victims to the maximum limit of Rs. 5.00 lacs and 50 percent for the affected victims with a capital value of Rs. Ten Lacs or below and added that in the 1993 riots and arson only a meager amount was paid to the riots victim, while Rs. 20000 was paid as compensation to 2003 riots victims and during 2008 riots, the affected victims were paid to the upper limit of Rs. 1.00 lac. He said that with the efforts of the Association, the administration had also removed the VAT returns formality from the list of documents required for the submission of claim only after the interference of Association. He said that total of 58 files out of 93 have been cleared by the Deputy Commissioner till date and added that 32 affected victims have also received the compensation in their accounts. While targeting his opponent, Rakesh Gupta said that the dissident group of the organization has framed a new body without prior dissolving the earlier committee and termed it as unconstitutional. He also termed the use of the letter pad of the Organization by dissent group as unconstitutional. In another statement issued by newly floated traders group today also held a press meeting at Kishtwar in which they elected a new body. As per the statement, a general meeting of Traders Association was held under the chairmanship of Ajeet Shan, Capt. Hukum Chand, Satish Sharma and Ved Prakash Gupta wherein they discussed the various problems being faced by the shopkeepers. They said that most of the victims of the Kishtwar riots are facing problems for the settlement of their claims and blames the administration for paying no attention towards the affected victims. They said that the administration behaving rudely to the affected victims. They urged upon the administration to settle the cases as early as possible. They demanded settlement of the claims as per the list of assessment as issued on the official website of Kishtwar District as was published by "Early Times" few days ago. Speaking on the occasion, the newly elected President of the Association Bharat Bhushan Gupta said that they will not let the administration neglect towards the minority community. They threaten that in case the administration did not cleared all the claims as per the list issued on the official site of the District Kishtwar at the earliest, they will launch an agitation against the administration. Various other members of the Association also spoke on the occasion including Kishori Lal Shan, Atul Gupta, Ved Prakash Gupta, Balbir Singh and Ravinder Gupta. A team was also formed by a unanimous decision by all the participant members.
