| Kashmiri Hindus' response to politics of separatism | | Separate Homeland | | Neha
JAMMU, Dec 29: The entire Kashmiri leadership, barring the one belonging to the internally-displaced Kashmiri Hindus, says day in and day out that the people of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh not only advocate as a lasting solution to the so-called Kashmir problem the restoration of the political system as it existed in but also want Article 370 to be made a permanent feature of the Indian Constitution as it was, according to them, incorporated to protect and promote the various identities in the state. What they say is nothing but a white lie. That they speak a white lie could be seen from what the internally-displaced Kashmiri Hindus across the country did on Saturday to again repose their faith in India and Indian Constitution. Leave aside the people of Jammu and Ladakh and victims of two-nation theory like the refugees from West Pakistan. For, their attitude towards India is too well-known. On December 28, all the organizations of the internally-displaced Kashmiri Hindus demanded division of Kashmir and creation of a separate homeland for them within the Valley invested with Union Territory status so that they shape and mould their political and economic future themselves under the Indian constitutional framework. The internally-displaced Kashmiri Hindus not only organized functions in Jammu to commemorate the Margdarshan Resolution on the occasion of Homeland day, but in other parts of the country also. "A separate homeland alone would satisfy the urges and aspirations of seven lakh members of the community. Any other form of resettlement in Kashmir that does not address the geopolitical aspirations of the community would fail. All experiments aimed at diluting the fundamental geopolitical aspirations of the Kashmiri Hindu community are bound to fail. We have seen in the recent past some statements appearing in the press suggesting various experiments in regard to the resettlement in Kashmir. Such statements have the potential to confuse the community at a crucial juncture and should be avoided." Three major refrains of the Pandit organizations were: 1) The "atmosphere of coexistence in the Valley is absent and only submission or putting up with the worse is a guarantee to survive"; 2) "Communal harassment is the order of the day and it is risky for them to live in an atmosphere bereft of basic freedom"; and 3) "It was the Margdarshan resolution that paved way for the organized resistance to genocide and religious cleansing of the Kashmiri Pandits from Kashmir and we will achieve".It bears recalling that it was on December 28 more than 20 years ago that the internally-displaced Kashmiri Hindus had adopted the Margdarshan Resolution in Jammu. The resolution had said that they would not accept anything short of a "separate homeland for Kashmiri Hindus on the North and East of river Jhelum with free flow of Indian Constitution with Union Territory status".The internally-displaced Kashmiri Hindus are the original inhabitants of the Valley. Can the supporters of Article 370 or autonomy or self-rule or independence speak for this persecuted and hounded out community? Can they say that this persecuted community shares their perverted views on the status of J&K vis-à-vis India? They cannot. |
