| MNREGA data entry operators being exploited by State Govt | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 14: The data entry operators working under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA) are being exploited by the government for past seven years. The monthly honorarium of these operators is only Rs 7500 where as data entry operators of other national schemes like National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) and Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) are getting almost double the amount. The work load of these operators is increasing with every passing day but there is no increase in their honorarium.
"We have been working day and night to upload the data being provided under MNREGA scheme by our senior officials. Besides that officials take our services for other official work as well. At the time of elections or natural disasters, our services are being taken and no extra money is being paid," said a data entry operator wishing anonymity.
He said that they approached the minister for rural development, commissioner secretary rural development and director as well but they for no assurance of increase in the honorarium.
Meanwhile, the data entry operators of NRHM and SSA are getting Rs 12 to 14 thousand honorarium and every year, they get 10 percent increase in it. But for the past seven years, data entry operators of MNREGA are being exploited and are getting only peanuts.
"We have been asking government to look into our matter but their response has not been good. We want the intervention of chief minister to save our future," said another operator.
The approach of rural development department is also negative with regard to these data entry operators.
"If they feel they are being exploited, they can leave the job and pay way for others to join. We can't do anything as their salary has to be meted out from the administrative expenses being provided by the government of India," said member secretary MNREGA J&K.
He said that there is difference between national schemes. "Rules and policy of other national schemes like NRHM and SSA may be different and we have to look after MNREGA," he said, adding, "In future we can't commit any thing. If administrative expenses are increased, honorarium may increase as well." |
