| Tehsildar Kokernag seizes dumped pipes from NC activist's residence | | PHE in soup! | | Saahil Suhail
Anantnag, Jan 14: Tension continued to mount on Public Health Engineering (PHE) officials in South Kashmir's Anantnag district after Tehslidar Kokernag along with a squad acting on specific tiff off, seized over 44 pipes from NC activist's house in Bidder area of Kokernag. Reports said that Tehsildar Kokernag, Shabir Ahmad acting on a specific input raided the residence of National Conference activist Gulam Qadir Wagay and seized over 44 pipes which according to locals were meant for providing water supply to the area. Tehsildar Kokernag, Shabir Ahmad, when contacted confirmed that he had seized the pipes worth lakhs of rupees from the said activist residence. "Yes, we seized pipes in Bidder Kokernag after this office received specific information about it." Tehsildar Shabir Ahmad said, adding they have demanded records from the department and were investigating as it seems that the pipes meant for public were being sold. Locals have expressed their apprehensions and are demanding through probe as according to them PHE officials were in broad day light dumping pipes at several places in the area during the construction of a water supply scheme last year. They said that department very recently closed the work and now it is clear that seized pipes were meant for public to provide them water supply but the officials were selling them after dumping them with the help of Local National Conference activist. Meanwhile, highly placed sources told Early times that PHE officials continue to use their influence for covering up the issue. "All the officials of PHE department in the area are in soup and they are using every means to pressurize Tehslidar for covering up the issue as he had demanded records from the department which they haven't." they said, adding officials have drawn bills of seized pipes which is worrying them the most. |
