Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 14: As the revocation of suspension of five BJP MLAs finally took the practical shape paving way for their return into party fold, whispers loaded with queries are doing rounds in the political corridors as to why and on what grounds the sixth MLA Jagdish Raj Sapolia has been left out. The re entry of 7th MLA Prof Chaman Lal Gupta had already been ruled out from all quarters.
A formal press note to this effect was circulated today with the announcement that BJP High Command has decided to revoke the suspension of five MLAs who include Baldev Raj, Master Lal Chand, Durga Dass, Bharat Bhushan and Prof. Gharu Ram who were expelled from the party in April 2011 following allegations of cross voting in the Legislative Council election.
An official handout also giving reference of BJP National General Secretary Jagat Prakash Nadda, stated that the decision in this regard has been taken following letters written by these MLAs to National President Rajnath Singh expressing their "unconditional" desire to work for the party as per the party's priorities and directives and therefore, requesting that their suspension may kindly be revoked and an opportunity be given to resume work for the party.
However, the sixth MLA Jagdish raj Sapolia has said that no one from the party approached him in this regard nor did he ever contact anyone in the central leadership on the grounds party leadership has put forth in the handout. " No one ever asked as to what was my desire in terms of getting back into the party fold......I do not know what criteria they (central leadership ) has adopted in deciding to take back only five MLAs whereas the charges and allegations were levelled against all of us.....", said Sapolia while speaking to ET. It is still unclear on what parameters our ouster was decided then by the party and now on what parameters they have chosen only five MLAs, he further said, indicating he was not quite happy over the way things have been handled by the party leadership. However, he asserted that he would continue to support the party particularly in wake of the fact that Narender Modi has been nominated as Prime Ministerial candidate for the
LS polls. "Narender Modi is towering political figue for whom I have regards ...he can change the development scenario of entire nation and has capacity to deliver on all fronts of governance, which is why I would support him without any doubt...", Sapolia said.
Jagdish Raj Sapolia who represents the Basohli constituency was among the 7 MLAs who were actually expelled from the party two years back on charges of involvement in the cross voting in LC polls. The charges triggered massive controversy that dragged the matter in the court. The move finally culminated in expulsion of the 7 MLAs from the party.
