Jammu, Jan 14: With scheduled date for 101th Indian Science Congress (ISC) is coming at hand, the Jammu University which has to host the prestigious event seems unprepared for the mega event scheduled to be held from February 3-7, as basic infrastructure still is under question?
The mega event that will be inaugurated by Prime Minister of India Dr Manmohan Singh and among the attendants are Nobel Laurates of the world, internationally acclaimed scientists and delegates from other fields of excellence, may face the stench of lack of the preparations of the varsity for the event and the same has come under scanner as the university has so far failed to get its toilets cleaned - 'public convenience' ahead of this event. According to sources, the varsity in its website has only focused on the housing facility for the national and international delegates with its different infrastructures like Dhanvantri Library, Boys and Girls hostels, General Zorawar Singh Auditorium and other infrastructures and not on the facilities being provided to them but goody-goody things are only few but the ground zero is completely different. "The doors of the hostels and other buildings can be seen broken, dirty mosaic on walls cast by the spit out Gutkhas, unclean floor, littered surrounding, broken wash basins and roads losing bonds with cement which is vulnerable to accidents but University authorities seems to be least bothered about the same, they said. Photographs with Early Times disclosed newly blacktopped road in front of Baba Jitto Boys hostel barred for movement of vehicles and according to sources, the same has been done to avoid the usage of road until the event will be inaugurated by Prime Minister of India Dr Manmohan Singh.Pertinently, few days back, a student of the University was injured with cuts on his face who was later on admitted in the University Health Center for treatment due to the shabby condition of the newly blacktopped road. Not only sources within Jammu University, the student leaders like National Student Union of India (NSUI) leader Nitin Bakshi too are apprehending an 'omen' if things will not be get done before it is too late. He said that the road macadamized recently has started coming out owing to compromise with the construction material by some vested interests and he had brought this matter including the lack of cleanliness into the notice of Jammu University administration but they have not bothered to take cognizance against the same.
