| No pre-poll alliance between NC, Cong: Kamaal | | '20,000 NC workers butchered during militancy' | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Jan 14: National Conference today claimed that Congress is eager to have a pre-poll alliance with NC but the party has decided not to forge any kind of alliance with Congress. Addressing a press conference at party headquarters Nawai Subah in Srinagar, Additional General Secretary of National Conference Dr Shiekh Mustafa Kamaal said that at least 20,000 National Conference leaders and workers were butchered during hey days of militancy. "Our committed workers do not want any kind of alliance with Congress party and we can't deceive them and play with their sentiments," Kamaal said that Soz has hinted indirectly that Congress party wanted a pre-poll alliance with NC after he suggested that elections should be contested and taken as friendly game. Kamaal said that NC would contest the 2014 Assembly elections on the pattern of previous polls. "There is no question about it (pre-poll alliance) and there is absolutely no possibility of doing it," Kamaal said adding that NC would fight the ensuing polls single-handedly as the party had a strong base in the state. Replying to a question Kamaal said that State Congress president Saif-ud-Din Soz acted like a child by sounding rigging alarm. "We forged an alliance with Congress party to run the Government and now we are not going to forge an alliance with this party," he said. Kamaal said that he does not have any faith in New Delhi as Central Government never tried to take Kashmiris on board. "We all know what happened to the recommendations made by interlocutors. There is trust deficit and it will be always there till New Delhi not change its policy on Kashmir," he said. Reacting to the statement made by Indian Army chief, Kamaal said that Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) has to go from Kashmir. "Army has a role on borders and not in populated areas. Normalcy has returned in Kashmir and it is the ripe time to revoke AFSPA in a phased manner," Kamaal said. Responding to a query, Kamaal said that Cabinet Sub Committee constituted to examine the creation of administrative units is functioning in a normal manner and are seeking suggestion from common people. "People's Democratic Party is trying to politicize the issue while the Government has no intention to take any decision on political basis in this regard," he said. |
