| Despite inclement weather Eid-I-Milad celebrated with religious fervor across Kashmir | | | Jehangir Rashid SRINAGAR, Jan 14: Eid-I-Milad was celebrated with religious fervor and gaiety across the Kashmir valley with thousands of devotees turning up at different religious places in connection with the religious congregations and allied functions. Thousands of persons turned up at Hazratbal shrine during the course of the day and offered prayers while seeking blessings from Almighty Allah. The devotees had a glimpse of the holy relic of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) as it was displayed after the five time prayers during the day. Emotional scenes were witnessed when people prayed for their well being and the well being of the society. Eid-I-Milad, birthday of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is celebrated across the globe with Kashmir being no exception. Along with Hazratbal shrine huge Milad congregations were held at Jinab Sahib Soura, Asar Sharief Shahri Kalashpora, Khanqah-e-Moulla, Asar Sharief Lal Bazar, Syed Sahib Sonwar, Pinjoora-Shopian, Khiram-Sirhama, Makhama-Beerwah, Kaabamarg and other districts, towns and townships located across Kashmir valley. Last night thousands turned up at Hazratbal shrine and different Masjids of Kashmir valley for night long prayers. Despite chill thousands took part in the night long prayers and prayed for the overall peace and prosperity of the land. Milad processions were also taken out in different parts of Srinagar and all the important district headquarters of Kashmir valley. People belonging to different age groups took part in these Milad processions. State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) operated bus service from Lal Chowk to Hazratbal and vice-versa. Despite inclement weather huge number of persons availed this service in reaching Hazratbal and coming back. Private transport companies and Sumo operators also operated their service on this occasion from city centre and other places both within the district and outside. The celebrations Milad celebrations will continue till Friday and on Friday it is expected that thousands once again would turn up at Hazratbal shrine to have a glimpse of the holy relic. The administration had made elaborate arrangements for the convenience of devotees. Rallies, blood donation camps and Mehfil-e-Milad were held to mark the occasion. In the evening Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah visited Dargah Hazratbal and paid obeisance on the occasion of Eid-I-Milad. Omar offered Magrib Nimaz (Evening Prayer) at the shrine among the thousands of devotees. He prayed for peace and prosperity of the state and well-being of the mankind. The Chief Minister extended his greetings to the people and shared felicitations with the devotees at the Dargah. |
