Jammu, Feb 18: Department of Botany Government College for Women (GCW) Gandhi Nagar today held a function to award Merit Certificate to 110 students who participated in National Environment Awareness Campaign under Biodiversity Conservation Project sponsored by WWF Chapter-J&K.
The major events conducted under said project during the Session 2013-14 included Painting Poster Competition; Slogan Writing Competition; Preparation of Biodiversity Register; and Symposium.
Painting-Poster Competition was held on topics such as- Clean Green College Campus; Green Communities; Global Warming; Biodiversity & Water and Biodiversity & Sustainable Development.
In this competition first position was secured by Kamayani Sharma B.Sc- II, roll No: 230 having framed poster on topic- Green Communities; second position by Ruchika sabherwal B.Sc II, Roll No: 502 having framed poster on topic- Global warming and third position by Sonia Slathia B.A I, Roll No: 2441. Consolation prize is bagged by Shivani and Puneet Kour.
In Slogan Writing Competition first position was secured by Sheetal Priya of B.Sc II, Roll No: 56 having written slogan as- Manav ki hogi tawi suraksha- Van Jeevan ki jo karaega raksha"; second position by Nidhi Shivgotra of B.Sc part II, Roll No: 54 having written slogan as- Let us protect our family- Conserve Biodiversity now; and third prize to Shakshi Sharma of B.Sc I, Roll No: 122 having written slogan as- Biodiversity we must keep- So in the future we do not weep. Consolation prize is bagged by Anju Bala; Sipaj Jain and Chakshu Chawla.
Along with merit certificates, students were handed over literature related to Biodiversity Conservation. It includes an article titled "Biodiversity at Glance" by Botany Staff members; a poem titled "Bhutae meaning plants" written by Student Meenakshi Kesar of BA III, Roll No: 1227; and a brochure titled 'Blue Pearl in Space" written in three languages [Hindi, Urdu & English], an intellectual property of NGO- Society SHEER [Health Environment Education Research; affiliated with NSS JU and Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangatha, Ministry of Sports and Youth affairs]. This brochure is awarded free of cost. |
