| Coalition MLAs walkout over Refugees' issue | | Is Congress dancing to election tunes? | | Bivek Mathur Jammu, Feb 18: With Lok Sabha elections slated to be held within months, Congress once again raked up the refugees' issues and sought clarification from state government regarding their failure for a genuine redressal of various long pending demands of refugees in the state. While discussion on calling attention notice tabled in the upper house by Congress MLC Ravinder Kumar Sharma, the MLC criticized state government for its failure to formulate a common package for different refugees including PoK Refugees, Western PoK Refugees and others who were dislocated from Chamb area during tensions across the borders. The member raised a serious concern over the issue and said, "For the past over 1.5 years, I am hearing that a proposal has been made for a comprehensive package for different refugees to mitigate their sufferings but till date haven't seen any development in this regard which is adding to their woes". The concerned ministers Aijaj Ahmed Khan in the reply said that PoK refugees who migrated during 1947 and settled in the state with around 26319 families and 10115 families of Chamb area who had to shift from 46 villages during 1965 and 1971 wars have been compensated and were allotted land and residential quarters in rural as well as urban areas of the state but as far as Western Pak occupied Kashmir refugees are concerned, the state government could not provide much facilities to them as they were not permanent residents of the state like the PoK and Chamb Refugees. As Aijaj could not satisfy the concerned MLC up to the mark regarding the question he has raised about the failure of government to submit the proposal to Union government about a comprehensive packages to all the refugees of the state for their one time settlement, he got irked over the as usual reply and staged walk out from the house with two other Congress MLCs namely Naresh Kumar Gupta and B R Kundal.
