| Farooq contradicts his own statement on Guru hanging | | | Javaid Naikoo Srinagar, Feb 18: With Supreme Court today commuting the death sentence of three assassins of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi to life imprisonment, the duplicity of Union Minister and National Conference patron, Farooq Abdullah got exposed when while contradicting his own statement, he said that decision of hanging Guru was unjustified and whatever happened was done by the central government only. NC patron who on February 11, 2013 while talking to reporters in Kashmir justified the hanging of parliament convict Afzal Guru took a u-turn from his previous statement today at a time when Supreme Court in a land mark decision commuted the death sentence of three convicts in Rajiv Gandhi assassination case. Farooq Abdullah while talking to reporters in Delhi said that hanging of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru was "absolutely unjustified". Farooq while hailing the Supreme Court judgment said that Centre did not inform us (NC) and just hanged him. Abdullah while justifying the today's decision of supreme court said that death sentences should not be used in the civilized world. Pertinently Farooq Abdullah while talking to reporters in Kashmir on Feb 11, 2013 said that Afzal Guru's hanging was carried out by the government according to a procedure and planning. "Afzal Guru's mercy petition was put before the President of country who rejected it." When reporters then asked him about the situation in Jammu and Kashmir post Afzal hanging Abdullah added that such questions must be asked to the Chief Minister of the state. The statement of Abdullah was then largely criticized keeping in view the law and order problem which erupted in Kashmir post Afzal Guru hanging.
