BARAMULLA, Feb 18: Principal Sessions Judge Baramulla, Rashid Ali Dar today extended the judicial remand of Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) driver Mohammad Shafeeq Awan till March 4. The court extended the remand of Awan following the arguments from both sides since the case was listed for hearing today. The extension of judicial remand was done on the basis of FIR number 06 of 2014 lodged against Awan at Police Station, Uri under section 8/21 (C), 29 Narcotic Drugs Prevention Substances (NDPS) Act. Advocate Abdul Salam Rather appearing for the accused submitted that Awan may be provided an opportunity to communicate with his family across the border so that they are ensured about his well being here in the jail. In his order Principal Sessions Judge Baramulla wrote the Case Dairy (CD) file has been produced and perused. He wrote that good ground has been made out for remand of accused to judicial custody adding that accused is remanded to judicial custody for a period of 15 days from today. The Principal Sessions Judge, Baramulla directed Superintendant Central Jail Srinagar and investigating officer, Kameshwar Puri to ensure interaction/conversation of accused with his family under rules This came as a big relief to Awan who said that he has not communicated with his family from the day of his arrest. "I have been trading since three years with Al-Jaffar Trading Company in Pakistan. We were 49 truck drivers from other side of LoC and I was not aware of the hiding of consignment of narcotics. We are not allowed to check the sealed bags, if we do so, we are considered as thieves," said Awan while sharing his views with select group of journalists at District Court here. At the same time a breakthrough has been achieved as LoC trade is going to resume on Thursday (February 20). The decision to resume the trade was taken in a meeting that took place between Trade facilitation officers at Zero Point near Kaman Post near the Line of Control in this North Kashmir district. During the meeting it was decided that there will be complete checking before any truck is allowed to enter on either side of LoC. The resumption of trade has been welcomed by people associated with this trade from this side of Line of Control. |
