ET Report Jammu, Feb 18: The Health Department has ordered inquiry into an alleged negligent death of a new born at Government Hospital Gandhi Nagar. Following a complaint by the victim couple, the Director Health Services, Dr B S Pathania constituted a three-member inquiry committee to probe the matter. The committee will submit its report in three days. Pertinently, a new born died in the hospital on the night of February 15 allegedly due to the negligence of Gynaecologist Dr Manju Tickoo. When contacted, the Director Health Services told that Deputy Director Health Dr. Gurjeet Singh, Gynaecologist from Govt Hospital Sarwal Dr. Shafiqa Bano and Pediatrician from Akhnoor Hospital Dr Sunita Kesar have been included in the committee to look into the reasons of the death of new born. "We received a complaint that Dr Manju Tickoo didn't give timely attention to the pregnant lady owing to which she lost her baby. The lady was referred to Gandhi Nagar Hospital by the Gynaecologist from District Hospital Samba. Further, we have inputs that Dr Manju misread the case." He assured that stern action will be taken against the erring doctor, if anything adverse comes against her in the inquiry report. Dr Pathania admitted that previously also several complaints surfaced against Dr. Manju but action had not been taken for various reasons. Meanwhile, the couple has also taken a hard stance over the issue demanding stern action against the lady doctor whose negligence snatched the life of their 'baby in womb' itself. The couple, Omkar Singh and Madhu, hailing from Nud in Samba, claimed that the doctor posted at Government Hospital, Gandhi Nagar delayed the scissorian operation of the pregnant lady which resulted in aggravation of complication that led to death of baby. "On Saturday, at around 6 p.m we reached Gandhi Nagar Hospital. We immediately contacted Gynae Surgeon Dr Manju Tickoo and gave her referral slip wherein the immediate surgery was recommended. But she insisted that nothing is to worry and delayed the operation till 11:30 p.m. Later, she did the operation but by then the baby was dead. Thereafter, she referred the case to SMGS Hospital where doctors pronounced the baby as brought dead," they said. The doctors at SMGS told the grieved family that had the operation been done on time, the baby in womb could be saved. They mentioned that delay caused at Gandhi Nagar Hospital cost heavily to the couple. Aggrieved couple then lodged complaint in this matter to Medical Superintendent, Govt Hospital Gandhi Nagar, Dr Romesh Gupta who forwarded the case to Director Health Services. |
