| SC to hear petition on Gool-Kishtwar riots on Feb 25 | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
Srinagar, Feb 18 : The Chief Justice of India Justice P. Sathasivam accepted the request of Prof Bhim Singh, Senior Advocate to hear the writ petition filed by the Panthers Party Political Secretary in connection with killing and riots in Gool Ramban and Kishtwar last year. The Supreme Court Division Bench comprising of Chief Justice JMRanjan Gogoi today ordered that it shall hear the writ petition of the Panthers Party on February 25, 2014. The writ petition has demanded a judicial probe into the killing of four civilians in Ramban District on July 18 and killing of three persons in Kishtwar on August 9last year during the riots that spread on 'Eid Day' in Kishtwar where more than 100 persons lost their houses, shops, vehicles. The petitioner has charged the State Administration for abetting the rioters to vandalize and property of the local shopkeepers and house owners. The State Government held an inquiry under a retired judge. Prof Bhim Singh said that inquiry was meant only to give a clean chit to the administration and the government. The Inquiry Commission has not recommended damages to the owners of the lost property till date. Prof. Bhim Singh told the court presided over by the Chief Justice of India that nearly 100 persons affected during the State sponsored riots have not been given any relief in spite of the notice issued to the Govt. of J&K by the Supreme Court. The petitioner has also demanded CBI inquiry or independent inquiry into the bloody incident at Gool and Kishtwar. |
