Rajouri, Feb 18 : PDP workers held a protest march in Rajouri against the discrimination with Rajouri district in recent announcement of sanctioning of four Medical Colleges by the centre. Led by PDP leader Qamar Hussain Choudhary, workers raised slogans against the Union Health Minister. Speaking on the occasion Adv Qmar Hussain said that it is very unfortunate and regretful on the part of the central as well as the state government that has intentionally left out the region while sanctioning Medical College. He said this is not the only instance that the Pir Panjal region has been left out. The Jammu-Poonch rail link for which feasibility survey was done and subsequently approved by the Centre was suddenly shelved by citing high cost factor. He said that it was a national project and would have been an asset keeping in view the future. He said that this ambitious rail link would have dramatically changed the scenario of the region. It would have not only been useful for the large army stationed in the region but also would have provided employment to a large number of unemployed youth as well as developed tourism. Qmar alleged that Pir Panjal region has been throughout neglected by the government. Earlier it was victimized by militancy and later by the apathetic attitude of the government. He said that the border districts of Rajouri and Poonch are strategically important since they border the LoC have proximity to Kashmir as well as Reasi. Being centrally located, with a large geographical area and a huge population it cannot be ignored easily but the apathetic attitude of the government has sent this region to posterity.
