| Geelani goes astray, asks Delhi to declare JK disputed region | | No second communal partition | | Neha JAMMU, Feb 25: Tehrik-e-Hurriyat chief Syed Ali Shah Geelani has gone astray. How else should one describe his suggestion that New Delhi must declare Jammu & Kashmir a disputed territory and it must stop harping on the integral part theory. NC leader and state Chief Minister Omar Abdullah too had made such a ridiculous suggestion on the floor of the Lok Sabha in 2013. He had said, "By repeating the word 'atoot ang' again and again, you can change the political status of Jammu & Kashmir". On February 24, Geelani rejected the idea of any talks with New Delhi until it declared Jammu & Kashmir disputed status and "stopped harping on the integral part theory". "The amalgam is of the view that any process of talks held secretly or openly is a futile exercise until New Delhi declares Jammu & Kashmir as a disputed territory and stops calling it as its integral part," said the Hurriyat advisory council members at a meeting here, which was chaired by its general secretary Haji Ghulam Nabi Sumji. "By being on board with New Delhi, the Hurriyat chairman Syed Ali Geelani and other leaders may be issued passports and exempted from being put behind the bars, but it will never lead to any headway in resolving the Kashmir issue. We are of the firm belief that bilateralism will lead us nowhere. It has neither yielded any desired result in the past not will help resolve Kashmir issue in future," a spokesman of the Hurriyat was quoted as saying. "As long as the Government of India continues with its policy of stubbornness on Kashmir, it symbolizes a defeatist mindset to beg for talks or accept any offer of talks from New Delhi. Besides, entering into bilateral talks until New Delhi acknowledges disputed status of Kashmir and fulfill other conditions is against the 1993-constitution of the Hurriyat Conference," the Tehrik-e-Hurriyat also said. Who is this Geelani to say what he said? The people of Kashmir, barring a few fanatics, have not given him the mandate to speak on their behalf. Similarly, the people of Jammu province and Ladakh region, who have never allowed the so-called Kashmiri freedom fighters like Geelani to establish their foothold in these two provinces, have also not given the mandate to any Kashmiri to speak for them. The fact of the matter is that an overwhelming majority of the people of the state is committed to India and stands for the implementation of the three unanimous Parliamentary resolutions on Jammu & Kashmir of February 1994, March 2013 and August 2013: Resolutions which say Jammu & Kashmir is an integral part of India and ask Pakistan to vacate the illegally-occupied territories of Jammu & Kashmir, including POJK and Gilgit-Baltistan. It is disturbing that the likes of Geelani are being allowed to pour venom on India and speak non-sense by the powers-that-be in the state and New Delhi. Their place is jail and this is what the nation wants. Enough is enough. The authorities must discharge their obligations towards the state and the nation and the first thing that they need to do is to bring the likes of Geelani to justice. If Pakistan could eliminate anti-Pakistan forces using extreme methods, why can't the authorities in the state and at the centre do the same to rid the state of all undesirable elements in the interest of the people and in the interest of peace in the region. The authorities must remember that the nation will not allow another communal partition of the country. |
