| K Rajendra Kumar to be new DGP of J&K | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 25: With his posting as special DG coordination at the PHQ today, decks have finally been cleared for K. Rajendra Kumar taking over the new DGP of Jammu and Kashmir. After his orders were issued by the State Government today as the special DG coordination replacing P.L. Gupta who goes as DG (Prisons), K. Rajendra Kumar is set to take over as the DGP of the State. Highly placed sources in the Union Home Ministry told Early Times the file for the repatriation of the present DGP, Ashok Prasad to the Central Government is waiting for its final clearance from the PMO. "Ashok Prasad's repatriation has already been cleared by the Home Ministry and it is now waiting for the final clearance from the PMO," top sources in Union Home Ministry said. Same sources said if the repatriation of Prasad is ordered by the Centre before March 3, when the model code of conduct is likely to come into effect in Jammu and Kashmir, Rajendra would take over the coveted post of the State's DGP right away. The sources said if, however, the repatriation of Ashok Prasad is not cleared because of administrative hassles before March 3, Rajendra would be taking over after the completion of the Lok Sabha elections in the State. A J&K cadre IPS officer of 1984 batch, K. Rajendra Kumar is one of the most highly decorated police officers of the State. He has served on crucial postings in the State including SSP (Srinagar), IGP (Kashmir), IGP (Jammu) and ADG (CID). K. Rajendra Kumar has always led the forces from the front during the peak of militant violence in the State during 1990s. |
