| Now , Kashmiri Pandits divided on celebrating Shivratri | | | Sandeep Bhat
Jammu, Feb 25: The festival of Shivratri ( Herath) which is the most important festival of Kashmiri Pandits may be celebrated on two days by the Community. Thanks to the panchang ( Janthari) "Vijeshwar Panchang" one published by Omkar Nath Shashtri and another by Manmohan Jyotshi ( Shashtri). There seems to be divergent views in both Panchangs on celebrating Shivratri, (Herath). According to Vijeshwar Panchang by O.N . Shashtri, the Shivratri should be celebrated on 27th Feb, 2014, citing different reasons. Even O.N Shashtri, held a press Conference on this issue and asked the community to Celebrate Shivratri on 27th February. On the other hand the panchang published by Manmohan Jyotshi shows 26th February as Shivratri ( Herath). He has cited different reasons , for celebrating Shivratri on 26th February. Both these panchangs have confused and divided the community on this issue. Even , Bharaman Maha Mandal Kashmir in association with Satisar Foundation and others scholars after going through the Shivratri Nirnay has come to the conclusion that herath (Vatak puja) be celebrated on 26th February instead of Feb 27. It said as per Shavic traditions and Bairavyag Granth , Herath is attributed to Vatuk Bairav and Maha Shivratri is attributed to lord Shiva. Talking to Early Times M.K Pandita a private employee said he is going to celebrate Shivratri on 27th because as per the guidelines of O.N Shastri. We are having his panchang ever since my childhood and will go by his decision. B.L Bhat a retired bureaucrat, said that this time Kashmiri pundits got confused and divided on the celebration of Shivratri . He further added that as per panchang published by Manmohan Jyotshi is authentic and will celebrated shivratri on February 26th , Sunita, a teacher by profession said this is not the first time , when we have two Shivratri's . Even when we used to live in Kashmir , we used to celebrate Shivratri on two days , one by sect known as "Malla Maas" and another sect known as " Baana Maas" Different people have different perception on Shivratri. There is no binding on community to celebrate the festival on particular day , but the different or divergent views have divided the community on celebrating the Shivrartri and has become a hot topic among Kashmiri pandits. Even radio Sharda has announced a particular day for its celebration . This community has remained united even after mass migration from Kashmir but the day of celebration of Shivratri has at least confused and divided the community. |
