| Cabinet authorization on use of Red lights Stung by VVIP syndrome, no post opted out of 'privilege' | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 25: J&K has once again proved that it acts against the stream on all matters that is followed elsewhere across the entire nation. This time on use of Red light, Flasher on the top of the vehicles for almost all dignitaries other than legislators. Following directions from the Supreme Court while Red Lights all across the country are being allowed to be used only on dignitaries holding constitutional posts, NC led coalition Government approved authorization for the use of various lights on vehicles through a proper and specially issued order which was approved by Cabinet in the meeting held on Monday. Even as this approval came as fresh one in what was seen as superseding all previous orders and instructions with regard to issue, the motive was more of clarifying as to who is entitled to use these lights of different categories. What prompted the Government to come with fresh set of instructions is the confusion and controversies which erupted in recent past with some VIPs using red lights atop vehicles which came under media scanner as well. While no post at the higher levels have been left or opted out of the privilege of use of Red lights, including civil servants, the move saw legislators protesting today in the Assembly secretariat against Government keeping them out of this special or VIP treatment. Whatever the criteria Government contemplated in deciding as to who would have what colour and set of lights as a matter of VIP identity, the move also contradicts the ideology and mind set of the allies , more so that of NC in fighting against all systems that symbolized autocratic rule. The VIP syndrome, as it is , considered to be a rudiment of autocratic rule in yore, something against NC takes pride in having dislodged that era with democratic form of the governance, the party still runs on contradictions in carrying on certain symbols which make the rulers and people on high posts feel special, privileged and VVIPs even while travelling on roads. The moot question remains, are these lights, of course except the constitutional posts and some important services for the benefit of general public, actually required.....? |
