Vakil says Cong will form Govt on its own
2/25/2014 11:19:25 PM
ET Report

Rafiabad, Feb 25 : Member AICC and Former Minister Abdul Gani Vakil today highlighted the achievements of the Congress party that `have resulted in its overwhelming popularity and familiarity in the state.'
He was addressing public meetings today in Chakloo and Ferozpora Rafiabad in District Baramulla. He said that now Congress is a vibrant force in all the three regions and will definitely form its own Government in the state. He said people in every nook and corner of the state are deliberating upon the motive behind hollow sloganeering of regional parties which is only aimed at securing their respective political gains and sideling the genuine aspirations of the common people. He said though late but people have now understood the game plan of regional parties to grab power through politics of exploitation and befooling. Vakil said that if there was a compulsion or situation that demands forging of pre or post poll alliance, it will be exclusively on the terms and conditions of the Congress as was in the year 2002 and party will never accept dictation from any alliance partner in respect of Chief Minister's post because Congress has suffered a lot during last five years. He said that grass root workers of the Congress are neither entertained nor respected by the people at the helm of affairs and are being treated as B Team members, which has demoralized the rank and file of the party. The former Minister said that power has never been the goal of the party but at the same time it will never allow any party to damage or compromise the national interests. He said that history is witness to the fact that congress has sacrificed power in the year 1957, 1986, 2002 and 2008. Vakil said that people are now comparing the era of Gh.Nabi Azad with the tenure of other leaders and it is a prudent fact that spree of development during Azad's tenure is unforgettable and achievements in respect of overall development of the State during his tenure has no past example. He described Azad tenure as Chief Minister of J&K as golden era. He said during his short tenure as Chief Minister of State or presently as Union minister for Heath Azad had took historical decisions whether it was creation of eight districts, double shift work culture or curbing of corruption in the State or as Health Minister sanctioning of Five medical colleges for the State it is his vision which helped the State to move forward and compete with other States of the Country. He said his vision for prosperity of the common masses has helped congress in achieving popularity in all the three regions of the state.
He reiterated that Azad's visionary policies resulted in empowerment of common masses. Vakil said that it was PDP who paved the way for NC to come in power by withdrawing support to Azad. Regarding alliance with any party Vakil said, "it is the prerogative of Smt. Sonia Gandhi and she believes in democratic process and whenever she takes any decision she takes state unit of Congress into confidence always." Besides others who addressed the gathering include Sr. Congress leader Haji Mohammad Afzal Khan, Ghulam Nabi Shah, Pandit Brij Mohan Nehru, Tariq Ahmad Mir and several others.
