| Time not ripe for revocation of AFSPA: Azad | | | Et Report
Jammu, Mar : 3 Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad Monday claimed that time is not ripe for revocation of Armed Forces Special Powers Act from certain peaceful districts of the state. Interacting with the media persons on the sidelines of a function in the Super Specialty Hospital complex, Azad said it is not appropriate on my part to comment on the assessment of the state Chief Minister.
At the same time he said in my personal capacity all I can say is that time is not ripe for revocation of AFSPA. He said elections are round the corner and Pakistan and militants will step up the activities. So we must be conscious.
He said it is also true that Pakistan is always providing training, aiding and abetting militants against India. Azad's crisp statement assumes far greater significance as it has come close on the heels of stand taken by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah that revocation of AFSPA would begin during his tenure in office. |
