| Dissensions surface in separatist camp over Modi's remarks on Kashmir | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 28 (KIP) :-BJP's Prime ministerial candidate,Narendra Modi's remarks, made at a pre-poll rally in Kathua, that he would follow Atal Behari Vajpayee's policy on Kashmir has left separatists in the valley a divided lot, reports said. Chairman Hurriyat Conference (M), Molvi Umar Farooq has stated that he and his party will adopt a wait and watch policy till the election is over, Hurriyat (G) leaders have criticized Modi for befooling people. They claimed that Vajpayee had no policy on Kahsmir and it was hence ludicrous for Modti to promise that he would following Vajpayee's policy on Kashmir. The JKLF chief, Mohd.Yasin Mailk, has stated that the Front has its own policy on Kashmir which would be made public shortly indicating that he differed with Modi's plan to carry forward Vajpayee's policy. Another senior separatist leader,Shabir Ahmed Shah, said that since Modi was not the leader who could be trusted he cannot be equated with Vajpayee. And all what is evident from this is that the way Modi's commitment on adopting a humane policy on Kahsmir has exposed Kashmiri separatists claim on unity. They are as much divided as they used to be three years ago. Despite attempts havingbeen made by Shabir Shah and others for bringing about reconciliation among various factions of separatists the wedge between the hardliners and the moderates have not been bridged. Apart from this those among the separatists, including Shabir Shah,Yasin Malik and others, who are treated as moderates too have snapped ties with the Hurriyat Conference (M). While reaction against Modi's remarks on Kashmir from the separatists' camp was on expected lines that from the NC camp has come as a surprise. The NC candidate,Dr Mehboob Beg, who is contesting against PDP chief, Mehbooba Mufti,in Anantnag constituency has been quite harsh while reacting against Modi's statement. Beg has said that since Modi has been a killer of Muslims he should apologise to muslims in India. He has said that Modi's views on Kashmir cannot be trusted. The NC leadership believes that adopting anti-Modi stance could help the party in winning all the three seats in the Kashmir valley. It knows that it has no stakes in the Jammu region, where Modi wave is discernible,as it has not fielded its candidate from any of the two seats,it can take the liberty of fulminating against Modi for wooing muslim voters in the Kashmir valley.
