Baramulla court extends judicial remand of PoK driver | | | Syed Tahir Bukhari
BARAMULLA, Apr 1: Principal Sessions Judge Baramulla, Rashid Ali Dar today extended the judicial remand of Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) driver Mohammad Shafeeq Awan till April 21. The Principal Sessions Judge Baramulla extended the remand of Awan following the arguments from both sides since the case was listed for hearing today. The extension of judicial remand was done on the basis of FIR number 06 of 2014 lodged against Awan at Police Station, Uri under section 8/21 (C), 29 Narcotic Drugs Prevention Substances (NDPS) Act. Advocate Abdul Salam Rather appearing for the accused submitted that Awan may be provided an opportunity to communicate within a stipulated time with his family across the border so that they are ensured about his well being here in the jail. In his order, the court said the Case Dairy has been produced and perused. He wrote that good ground has been made out for remand of accused to judicial custody adding that accused is remanded to judicial custody for a period of 20 days from today. The court once again directed Superintendent Central Jail Srinagar and investigating officer, Kameshwar Puri to ensure communication of accused with his family under rules. But in response of this the central jail authorities said we don't have such provisions in which he can communicate with his family but (Awan) has written two letters to his family from the day of his arrest. In his order , the learned judge wrote on case diary that Ministry of Home(MoH) will make telephonic communication arrangements of (Awan) with his family and will access the counselor for him. The court also extended the judicial remand of two traders who are in custody for their role in the supply of narcotics recovered from the truck of a truck driver of Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) on January 17. Meanwhile the two traders Tariq Ahmad Sheikh and Showkat Habib lodged at Sub Jail Baramulla were brought and presented in the court of Principal Sessions Judge, Baramulla.The court after hearing the arguments extended the judicial remand of both Tariq and Showkat till April 15 when the case would be taken up once again. It would be in place to mention here that the consignment of narcotics supplied from PoK recovered from the truck of Awan was meant for Showkat. It is also important to mention here that on January 17 security agencies seized 114 brown sugar packets worth 100 crores from a truck at Salamabad-Uri, which was on its way to India. The driver of the truck Mohammad Shafeeq Awan resident of Muzaffarabad was arrested. |
