SRINAGAR, Apr 1: The pre-poll alliance with the National Conference is proving costly for the Congress with hundreds of its workers including a few district presidents and a former MLC threatening to quit.
Pertinently the Congress is all set to announce another alliance with the NC for the forthcoming assembly polls scheduled to be held in October this year.
However, the decision of an alliance with the NC has not gone down well with the members. District Presidents, Tehsil and Block Presidents and candidates who have contested repeatedly on Congress ticket including former Member of Legislative Council have decided to switch over to other regional parties incase Congress leadership did not nullify their decision to form alliance with National Conference for forthcoming Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir.
Sources said that in a secret meeting in Srinagar chaired by Jammu and Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) president Saif-ud-Din Soz in which besides senior leaders included Ghulam Ahmad Mir, Taj Mohi-ud-Din, Mohammad Muzaffar Parray, Monga, Congress candidate from Tral Surinder Singh Chani, District President of Srinagar, Abdul Gani Khan, District President Pulwama Abdul Gani, former MLC of Qazigund constituency Mohammad Amin Bhat and all other district presidents and Block level presidents expressed their concern for forming alliance with National conference for forthcoming Assembly elections.
Sources said that after the news of signing alliance with National Conference for Assembly elections was circulated few days back, the workers and leaders expressed reservations and have now threatened to quit the party.
Sources informed that Saif-ud-Din Soz, Ghulam Ahmad Mir and Taj Mohi-ud-Din also expressed reservations about the alliance. They are likely to call on Sonia Gandhi in the coming days to discuss the issue.
