JAMMU, Apr 1: In a bid to appease electorate in run up to the coming elections, National Conference-Congress led coalition Government released crores of rupees for development works to the constituencies of their legislators ignoring opposition legislators and the genuine developmental needs of the areas and also violating the Model Code of Conduct.
Sources told Early Times that State Government released development funds in excess in last two weeks of the just concluded financial years without examining the ground demands of the various areas targeting electoral gains.
"Nearly Rs 40 crore were released by PWD (R&B) during last 10 to 15 days to the constituencies of NC and Congress legislators bypassing PDP legislators that too ignoring deserving areas with the sole motive to get election benefits," they said.
They further informed that NC Legislator and Minister for Planning Ajay Kumar Sadhotra managed to get the lion’s share of the funds for his constituency. Similarly MLAs of Congress from erstwhile Doda also received funds. Congress Ministers from Jammu district were also among the beneficiaries.
Few NC Ministers from Valley also got big chunk for this development fund to win their voters as they were lacking in performance in their constituencies. Minister for Agriculture GH Mir and Tourism Minister were among the major beneficiaries in this front.
If sources are to be believed, amongst the opposition, only NPP legislator Harsh Dev Singh succeeded in getting minor share of funds for his constituency. They said NPP leader had approached to the Election Commissioner and lodged complaints in his regard but later he was 'compensated' by the Government with little share.
"Similarly in other Government departments the funds are being allocated to NC-Cong legislators with coming elections in mind," they added.
