Early Times Report

Jammu, Apr 1: Demanding either rechecking or re-holding of their exams in view of the poor results, the para-medical students today continued their protest demonstration for the 10th consecutive day. The agitated para-medical students also blocked the main road outside the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H), Jammu, after which police had to resort to mild lathi-charge to disperse the protesters for restoring vehicular movement.
Earlier in the morning, scores of students assembled inside the premises of GMC and raised slogans against the concerned authorities for being apathetic towards them. "We have been protesting for the last 10 days over a genuine issue concerning our future, but the authorities are so far least bothered", the protesting students said while raising slogans.
It may be mentioned that the para-medical students have been demanding that either their papers should be held again or they may be rechecked. They said, "We have already lost two and half years because of non conduction of exams in time. Our course was of 18 month's duration, but was completed in more than 4 years" and added, "This is not our fault. The poor result of 6% for Jammu region is hard to believe and as such we should be provided the details". The protesters said, "We have not been shown the gazette, our answer sheets and details of our exams. Only 'pass' and 'fail' is displayed". They demanded that they should be shown the details of their exams.
"We were shocked to see the result displayed on the college website where the concerned authorities have displayed only pass or fail marks and have not given details of the marks obtained by students", they said.
Moreover, 80 percent students and in some courses up to 90 percent have been declared failed, they said. They further said that most of questions were out of syllabus and were so tough that even students pursuing MBBS courses were unable to solve them.
