| Mehbooba, AAP nominee enter fray from Anantnag | | | Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Apr 1 : Peoples Democratic Party President Mehbooba Mufti and Aam Aadmi Party candidate Tanveer Maqbool Dar today filed their nominations for the Anantnag Lok Sabha seat in Kashmir which goes to the polls on April 17. Accompanied by party MLAs from south Kashmir, Mehbooba submitted her documents to Additional Deputy Commissioner, Anantnag, Mohammad Yousuf. The PDP leader has represented Anantnag in the Lok Sabha from 2004 to 2009. Mehbooba told reporters after filing her nomination that her party would seek the people's mandate for building a consensus in Parliament for a resolution of the Kashmir issue. "We want problems and issues of people of the state to be addressed by Parliament. So far, we have seen our MPs look for ministerial berths for themselves and after their tenure ends, they look for some sort of rehabilitation for their children," she said.AAP nominee Dar, son of former Union Minister of State for Home Mohammad Maqbool Dar, along with his supporters staged a brief protest outside the office of the Returning Officer as he had to wait for nearly three hours to submit his papers. The delay was caused as election officials were checking the documents of the PDP president. The PDP president said she would also work towards implementation of the law in letter and spirit in Jammu and Kashmir. "There are allegations of corruption against (NC chief) Farooq Abdullah relating to JK Cricket Association and also against (former state Health Minister) Shabir Khan. No action has been taken against them.""The hanging of Afzal Guru and commuting of the death sentence of Bhullar gave the impression of disparity before law which fuels alienation of the people and it needs to be addressed," the PDP chief said. The last date for filing nominations for Anantnag seat is April 5, scrutiny will take place on April 7 and the last date for withdrawals is April 9. |
