| Don’t repeat mistakes committed by previous central governments :APSCC | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, May 19 : Congratulating recently elected Members of Parliament (MP) in the country, All Parties Sikh Coordination Committee (APSCC) expected that mistakes committed by the former central government and the present state government are not repeated in future. In a statement here this afternoon APSCC chairman Jagmohan Singh Raina said real power lies with the people and this got reflected during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. He exuded confidence that the new government headed by Prime Minister designate Narendra Modi would take meaningful steps to address issues confronting people of Jammu and Kashmir. "Mr, Modi should gauge public mood and take people oriented measures," he said adding that the power of governance lies with the people and nobody can fool them everytime. Arrogance of leadership after getting power does not mean that voter shift power from their hand to their leader. The people can anytime show exit to their leaders as and when they get chance after five or six years, Raina said. He said the minority Sikh community supported National Conference (NC) and Congress with a hope that their issues would be resolved, but that was not to be. He said despite meeting Chief Minister Omar Abdullah thrice the government was unmoved as far as problems of the Sikh community are concerned. "Along with the Chief Miniter we also met some of the Congress ministers over the past five years, but every time they ignored the minority community despite known the fact that many assembly segments in the state comprise of minority segments and their united vote matters a lot in electing an MLA," Raina. He congratulated the members of Sikh community for not voting in favour of alliance candidates and said same thing may be repeated in the coming assembly elections. He said Sikh community had suffered in 23 years of turmoil in the state whether in Kashmir, Poonch or Rajouri. "The state government has not extended the National Commission for Minority Act to Jammu and Kashmir state. We demand that some share should be given to educated Sikh youth in the employment packages announced from time to time. Senior Sikh officers should be given top posts in the state administration," he demanded. Raina demanded that Punjabi language should be restored in school and colleges. He said the representatives of various Sikh organisations under APSCC projected the community issues before former Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh and state's Chief Minister but the issues never got any attention. "Let the new central government appoint an inquiry commission to probe into the charter of demands submitted to the state government particularly Chief Minister in core meetings of Sikh representatives. Like majority in Kashmir, minority Sikh community has suffered immensely and despite provocative acts like Chattisingpora and other massacres the community promoted brotherhood and never left valley, Raina said. |
