| Lt Gen Gurmit Singh visits special national integration camp of NCC cadets | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, June 23: Lt Gen Gurmit Singh, General Officer Commanding Chinar Corps, paid visit to the Special National Integration Camp being held at JAK LI Regimental Centre, Rangreth, Srinagar today. According to a statement issued to KNS, the Corps Commander was received by Additional DG NCC J&K, Maj Gen Neeraj Verma and other officers of NCC Group HQ, Srinagar. 300 NCC Cadets and 21 Associate NCC Officers representing all states and union territories are participating in this unique national integration camp. Lt Gen Gurmit Singh was presented a Guard of Honour by smartly turned out NCC contingent comprising of boy and girl cadets. Later the general officer and a large number of civil and army dignitaries witnessed a cultural programme based on the rich cultural heritage of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh regions, presented by the NCC Cadets. Naveen Agarwal, DG Youth and Sports, J & K and Brig Pankaj Sinha, Commandant JAK LI Regimental Centre were also present on this occasion. The general officer while addressing the cadets emphasized the need to conduct such camps for maintaining communal harmony and brotherhood and strengthening national integration, describing these as pre-requisites for the country's growth and stability. He further lauded the significant contribution being made by the NCC in grooming the youth of our country. He observed that the strength of NCC has grown over the years, but considering the strength of the youth particularly in J&K, more boys and girls needed to be brought under the ambit of the organization. He expressed happiness that an Air wing and a NCC Bn were being proposed to be raised in Srinagar and Kupwara respectively, which would provide new openings to the youth of the state. Lt Gen Gurmit Singh complimented the cadets for their impressive drill and cultural programme and wished them great success, happiness and good luck in all their future endeavors. Maj Gen Neeraj Verma, Additonal DG NCC, J&K, in his welcome address gave a resume of the aim and objectives of the camp. He thanked the General Officer Commanding Chinar Corps for his presence which would further inspire and motivate the young cadets towards nation building. |
