| Mr Geelani, problem in Valley is sectarian, not political | | Return of Kashmiri Hindus | | Neha Jammu, June 23: On Sunday, fanatic Syed Ali Shah Geelani opposed the move of the Government of India to rehabilitate the internally-displaced Kashmiri Hindus in the Valley. In fact, he accused the BJP Government at the Centre of hatching a conspiracy against Kashmiri Muslims, settling Hindus, including RSS and BJP workers in Kashmir, changing the demographic character of Kashmir and reducing Kashmiri Muslims to a minority. "The Government of India is hatching a conspiracy to change demography of Kashmir by planning to set up three cities for non-locals on 16,800 kanals of land in the Valley," he shamelessly said at a seminar "Moujoodah Surat-i-Hall kay Taqazay" (Demands of present situation) at Hyderpora, Srinagar, and added that the move is calculated to "weaken the ongoing movement for right to self-determination". "I have credible information that PM Narendra Modi and HM Rajnath Singh during their meeting with (Chief Minister) Omar Abdullah (on June 21) sought 16,800 kanals of land in three cities in north, south and central Kashmir to settle non-locals (read internally-displaced Kashmiri Hindus) on the pretext of rehabilitation of Kashmiri Pandits…The Government of India plans to establish a medical college, two engineering colleges , four police stations and 12 schools each on 5600 kanals of land in these cities so that people living there don't need to move out of these zones. New Delhi can settle even Hindu extremists, RSS activists and armed persons in these cities. This move is aimed to change the demography of Kashmir," he also, among several other highly provocative, things said. He, in addition, sought to create an impression that the so-called Kashmir problem is political that needed a political solution and the best way to solve this political problem is to grant the Kashmiri Muslims right to self-determination. The so-called Kashmir problem is not political as Syed Ali Shah Geelani and other Kashmiri leaders, including Omar Abdullah, Yasin Malik, Shabir Ahmad Shah and so on consistently claim. J&K is a settled issue and none in the country has the right to reopen it. To seek to reopen it would to question the very formation of Muslim Pakistan. The Constitution of India and the Jammu and Kashmir Constitution are very clear on the subject. Even the UN resolutions recognize Pakistan an aggressor and recognize the Indian right to station its troops in the areas illegally occupied by Pakistan through war and deceit. It's not Kashmir problem; it's problem in Kashmir. There are elements here and there who describe the problem in Kashmir as communal. The problem in Kashmir is not communal, as only self-styled leaders of members of a particular religious sect (read Kashmiri-speaking well-entrenched powerful ethnic Sunni) is involved in anti-India activities. In other words, the problem in Kashmir is sectarian that needed to be tackled as such by the law and order authorities as per the law of the land. It would not be out of place to mention here that members of other religious sects, including the Shiite sect, have nothing to do with the ongoing secessionist movement in the Valley. Leave aside a few disgruntled elements here and there in the Valley. Had the law and order authorities and the ruling elite in Kashmir, plus Governor of the State who is constitutional head of the state, ever discharged their obligations towards the Indian nation and Indian state and brought the sectarian leaders in Kashmir to justice there would have been no problem in Kashmir. It is hoped that new regime in Delhi would stem the rot in Kashmir by cleansing it of the likes of Syed Ali Shah Geelani. Geelani says Kashmir belongs to Kashmiri Muslims and they have three fundamental rights: Right to self-determination, right to merge with theocratic Sunni-dominated and controlled Pakistan, epicenter of global terrorism, and right to determine future of the entire State of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh. This is an atrocious formulation. The Constitution of India, like the American Constitution, doesn't grant the right to secede or right to self-determination to any community or any region of the country. Similarly, the people of Jammu and Ladakh, internally-displaced Kashmiri Hindus and several religious and ethnic groups in Kashmir vehemently oppose the demand in Kashmir for separation, greater autonomy, self-rule and merger with Pakistan. But more than that, Kashmir being an integral part of India politically and constitutionally all the Indians have the right to not only visit Kashmir but also settle there in case he/she so likes. The internally-displaced Kashmiri Hindus, who are considered by the fanatics like Geelani as Indians or non-Kashmiris, must make common cause with the Government of India to defeat the nefarious designs of Kashmiri separatists of all varieties. Geelani & Co has to be defeated at any cost and the internally-displaced Kashmiri Hindus, who have natural claim over the Valley, could play a very important role. |
