| BJP fails to hold function at Lakhanpur | | Mukherjee's anniversary | | Early Times Report KATHUA, June 23: For the first time in last 61 years, BJP failed to observe Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee's `balidan diwas' at Lakhanpur the gateway of Jammu and Kashmir or Kathua township. This has been seriously viewed by Nationalist forces in the state who said after coming to power the party could not hold a function at Lakhanpur to observe the martyrdom day of late Mukherjee who was arrested from here in 1953 and after breaking permit system was logged in Jail at Srinagar where he died in mysterious circumstances. According to sources BJP failed to hold even a symbolic program on his martyrdom day at Lakhanpur or Kathua township and no party leader from district Kathua showed any interest in organizing the function. It may be recalled that BJP in past had held many rallies at Lakhanpur to commemorate Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee's entry into the state to break the permit system. Even the Prime Minister Narendra Modi two years back held his first ever rally at Madhopur in Punjab signifying the entry of Dr. Mukherjee to J&K from this point in 1953 to break the permit system. Dr. Mukherjee who was the founder President of Bhartiya Jan Sangh had lead a rally to state of J&K on this day in 1953 to support the Praja Parishad movement in the state for total integration of J&K with rest of India. Following the Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee's sacrifice many Praja Parishad workers lay down their lives for nationalist cause in the state. Since then BJP is harping on this issue but it was for the first time this year that not even a symbolic function was held at Lakhanpur of Kathua township to commemorate martyrdom day of Mukherjee. |
