| Bid to evade tax foiled at Lakhanpur | | | Arun Trisal
Kathua, Sept 25 : Continuing with ongoing surveillance to curb the menace of smuggling of goods, sleuths of ExciseDepartment at Toll Post Lakhanpur checked a Haryana bound vehicle (HR55E-5657) of "Safe Express Pvt. Ltd" on Thursday and seized 800 Kgs of tobacco concealed in the cartoons on the name of Pan Masala.
"The vehicle was declared to be carrying pan masala but during the checking it was found loaded with 800 kgs of tobacco concealed under 40 cartoons. "The driver and vehicle have been handed over to Commercial Taxes Department after imposing fine under the J&K Levy of Tolls Act," the statement of JKETO Lekh Raj said. He said it seemed a bid of smuggler to escape from the high tax on tobacco. ETO Bhat, Insp Deeraj and other staff members participated in the seizure. |
