| INSENSITIVITY|| AAP is also Kashmir-centric | | | Rustam JAMMU, Sept 25: The September floods devastated both Jammu and Kashmir valley. These floods displaced people in both the provinces, damaged public and private property, destroyed shops of many, damaged and swept away standing crops, infrastructure, including roads, bridges and what not. The nature of devastation could be determined from the fact that these floods - natural and man made calamity - adversely impacted Jammu province's all the 10 districts and Kashmir valley's 6\districts, brought all activities to a standstill for days together, rendered many jobless and caused a loss to the tune of thousands of crores of rupees. A comprehensive exercise to assess the damage is still on. It was only natural that the moved nation and the union Government placed themselves at the disposal of the flood-ravaged people of the state through the (Unpopular, callous and irresponsible) Omar-Abdullah-led NC-Congress coalition Government, which continues to remain dysfunctional even today. They promised all possible support to the people of the state in this hour of grave crisis. Sadly, however, there are formations which, instead of sharing the woes of all the blood-hit people in the state, have been paying their attention to the flood-affected people of Kashmir valley alone. They have been discriminating with the people of Jammu province. They are so insensitive. One such formation is the Aam Adami Party (AAP) of Arvind Kejriwal, whose close associates like Prashant Bushan endorse the Kashmiri separatists' demand seeking right to self-determination for Kashmiri Muslims, withdrawal of the Army from Kashmir and revocation of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act. The AAP leadership deputed its national spokesperson Sanjay Singh to Kashmir two weeks ago for an on-the-spot assessment of the prevailing situation. Ever since then, Singh has been touring different districts of the Kashmir valley and meeting with the flood-affected people to listen to their woeful tales. "We want to help Kashmiri people…I have visited many flood affected areas of Kashmir. There is a major destruction everywhere. People have lost everything. Majority of the orchard trees and paddy fields are destroyed in floods. It requires a Herculean effort to overcome the situation…I think farmers are the most affected people. I visited many areas in Srinagar and South Kashmir, where situation is very grim. The State Government should provide immediate compensation to these farmers…There should be at least a six-month package for rehabilitation process from the State Government," he on Wednesday said at Srinagar. No one can and should question his humanitarian activities in the Kashmir valley because the flood-ravaged people there need attention, care and relief. In fact, he should be appreciated for the reason that he has been camping in Kashmir since two weeks now. But it would have been better had Kejriwal also deputed one senior leader of his outfit to Jammu for the same purpose. It would have send a good message and given the people of Jammu province to understand that the AAP, unlike many other political outfits and formations, didn't discrimination between the adversely impacted people belonging to different regions. That he also gave a preferential treatment to Kashmir only proves that he is no different from other pseudo-secularists. It hardly matters. The ignored and marginalized people of Jammu province have fended for themselves till date and they have the necessary will and strength to fend for themselves in the future as well. |
