Jammu, Sept 25 : At least 10 people were killed, two bridges and 600 power projects damaged in the recent flash floods in Jammu district. "So far, the floods have killed 10 people in Jammu district and left 9,509 structures completely damaged which included houses, cattle sheds, business establishments and other structures," a senior administrative official here today said. He said besides this, out of total of 912 villages across Jammu district, 817 were affected due to floods wherein about 80,000 people suffered. "The roads totalling 1240 kms, two main bridges, about 3,000 water sanitation schemes and around 600 power schemes were badly damaged," he said and added that the temporary restoration of affected infrastructure, will be completed soon for smooth functioning ahead. The official said 1,144 livestock have also perished in the torrential rains and about 32 lakh kanals of agriculture land has been completely destroyed. He said a total of 47 boats had rescued 3,400 people from different waterlogged areas while 40 tents and about 7,000 blankets were also distributed for rehabilitation of people, adding that the rehabilitation and relief distribution work is still in progress |
