| Jammu, Sept 27: The NSS Unit of Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, organized a guest lecture on humanitarian assistance here today. While realising the essence of youth involvement in floods response, the NSS unit organized a guest lecture on the "Role of NSS volunteers in Humanitarian Assistance". Raju Teron, AMEU Manager of Agency for Technical Cooperation & Development (ACTED), a France based International Development Organization, was the resource person on the occasion. He spoke at length about different aspects of humanitarian assistance ranging from conducting rapid need assessment, to relief distribution and assisting other actors responding disasters to sustainable and eco-friendly living. Principal of College, Dr. Kiran Bakshi, said that students and youth can play active role in dealing with emergencies. "We have millions of youth and students across nation enrolled as NSS volunteers, their services can be channelized for humanitarian assistance by our collective and coordinated efforts", she said. Earlier, NSS Programme Officer, Dr. Ashaq Malik introduced the audience about the programme. Prof. Nazia Rasool presented formal vote of thanks whereas NSS Volunteers Ashinder Kour and Sanam Khan conducted the proceedings of programme. NSS Programme Officers, Dr. Shiveta Gandotra and Prof. Shrotika Rajput also played active role in organising this pertinent awareness programme. |
